Rafa Cabrera-Bello got the monkey off his back this summer winning the Scottish Open for his first title since 2012. Since then, the 33-year-old Spaniard has been lighting it up and doesn’t seem far off from winning again.

RCB had an impressive Asian swing, going T10 at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia, T11 at the CJ Cup in South Korea and T5 at the WGC-HSBC Champions.

Cabrera-Bello made his Nedbank debut last year, tying for 55th.

For the year, Cabrera-Bello has made 21 of 28 cuts with eight top-10s and four more top-25s.

His performance in Asia contrasted how he got things done last year as he’s hit nearly 80 percent of greens and is is 173rd in putts per GIR. Last year, he was top 20 in strokes gained putting but 166th in GIR (62.69 percent). If RCB can continue the momentum with his swing, then his putting is due to turn around soon.

If he wins this week, RCB will join the illustrious company of Sergio García and Seve Ballesteros as the only Spaniards to win this event. Any sort of high finish will do wonders to help him place in the coveted top 10 in the Race to Dubai after next week.
