Nedbank Golf Challenge Top 10 power rankings
Tommy Fleetwood’s vast lead in the Race to Dubai has quickly closed as Justin Rose has vaulted to No. 2 less than €150,000 off the pace. Fortunately for Fleetwood, Rose is resting up before returning at next week’s DP World Tour Championship.
Fleetwood hasn’t gotten in the mix to win tournaments lately as he did earlier in the year. That’s not to say the 26-year-old Englishman hasn’t been playing solid golf. His T23 last week in Turkey was his fourth top-25 in as many starts, which include a T6 at the Italian Open.
For the year, Fleetwood has broke out for two wins, two-runner-ups and five more top-10s. He’s made 18 of 24 cuts.
Fleetwood tied for 14th at last year’s Nedbank Golf Challenge but only placed 14th and 21st in his first two starts here when the field was limited to 30.
Gary Player Country Club should set up well for Fleetwood who is one of the game’s best ballstrikers. He hit as many greens as Rose did in his win last week and has been at or neat the European Tour’s GIR and driving accuracy charts. According to Sporting Life, three of the last four Nedbank winners led the field in GIR, which bodes well for Fleetwood.
The putter will likely make the difference this week between another nice paycheck and a chance at victory.
“..pretty much all week, struggled to get the putts in, a lot of makeable putts,” Fleetwood said Sunday in Turkey. “Not ones that you hole all the time, but the ones that if you’re going to build a score, those are the ones that you make.”
