A few big names are in the field at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, but this week could be prime for an unsung hero

The OHL Classic at Mayakoba has one of its better fields in its young history, attracting the likes of Patrick Reed, Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson to tee it up in Playa del Carmen.

Once an alternate field event contrasting the WGC-Match Play, this event has its own week on the schedule, albeit during a time when many players are beginning to shut it down for the winter.

Three veterans have won the last three playings of the OHL Classic, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that there are plenty of young and/or unproven players who are talented enough to contend this week.

This is an important time for the Web.com Tour graduates. They have two weeks left to position themselves ahead of the reshuffle coming after the final FedEx Cup points event of the 2017 calendar year, the RSM Classic ending on Nov. 19.

I don’t feel quite as confident as Babe Ruth calling my shot to center field, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say the winner comes from outside the top 100 in the world this week. Here are five who could do the trick at El Camaleón.
