LAS VEGAS, NV – NOVEMBER 04: Whee Kim of South Korea hits his tee shot on the 16th hole during the third round of the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open at the TPC Summerlin on November 4, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Robert Laberge/Getty Images) /

Meenwhee Kim isn’t even the highest-ranked Kim in the field — that honor goes to world No. 45 Si-Woo Kim — but that’s OK. He’s gotten into contention more often than his fellow South Korean, Si-Woo.

Kim lost in a three-man playoff last week in Vegas to who I’d say is the most underrated player in golf, Patrick Cantlay. This came two weeks after the 25-year-old tied for fourth at the CJ Cup, earning low South Korean honors at his home country’s debut on the PGA Tour schedule.

The old adage goes ‘Drive for show, putt for dough,’ but both are helping Kim pad his wallet. He’s seventh in total driving and 16th in strokes gained putting so far in this young 2017-18 PGA Tour season.

Kim’s two starts at the OHL Classic were a missed cut in 2014 and a T63, though both came during noticeable slumps in his game.

This young golfer has had more missed cuts (13 in 28 starts) than you’d like, but with four top-five finishes in 2017, he’s a good risk-reward pick this week.
