It’s been a slightly below average year by Kevin Streelman’s standards in 2017, but he hasn’t exactly had to beg for his supper, either. The 39-year-old (who just celebrated a birthday on Saturday) has missed five cuts in 23 starts with two top-10s, though no top-three finishes.

He’s posted solid results in his last five starts: MC, T35, T13, T10 and 67 last week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. More solid are his results in Playa del Carmen.

Streelman was in the mix to win last year, tying for fourth and four shots off the pace. Posting a 73 at an event where the average winning score is about 16- or 17-under par, like Streelman did in the second round, wasn’t great, but his three other scores of 65, 64 and 65 instills confidence for his return this year. His other past results at El Camaleón show a T28 in 2008, T3 in 2009 and a T34 in 2015.

Streelman’s hitting the ball nicely on the young season as he sits in the top 30 in these strokes gained categories: off-the-tee, approach-the-green, around-the-green and tee-to-green. If he’s able to make anything on the greens this week, Streelman could be in line for his first win since 2014.
