RSM Classic Power Rankings: Top ten at Sea Island
Brandt Snedeker is making his return to competition for the first time since June. According to Golf Digest’s Tim Rosaforte, Snedeker was unable to swing a golf club for nine weeks as he recovered from a sternum joint injury uncommon in golfers.
The former Sea Island resident now has the green light to play, and likely will use this as a trial balloon before regrouping for a full schedule in 2018. Pre-injury, Snedeker had a decent year going with four top-10s in 14 starts.
This will be Snedeker’s fourth appearance at the RSM Classic. He tied for 32nd in 2011, missed the cut in 2015 and tied for 45th last year.
It’s hard to judge how Snedeker, 36, will come out of the gate this week as Rosaforte reports that he’s still feeling a little soreness. As long as Snedeker’s flat stick is still rolling well (31st last year in strokes gained putting), he’s talented enough to piece together a decent showing this week.
In 2016-17, Snedeker was ninth in birdie average and a respectable 62nd in driving accuracy. It’ll be interesting to see if he can continue keeping the ball in play to give himself enough good looks on the greens.
