RSM Classic Power Rankings: Top ten at Sea Island
Bill Haas is too talented of a player in a field like this to completely ignore. His only top-10, though, since a T5 finish at the US Open in June (his best major championship result) was a T10 at the Dell Technologies Championship.
He had a poor showing in his last start at the WGC-HSBC Champions (T62), but pieced together two rounds in the 60s, including a 65, to finish T17 at the Safeway Open in his prior start.
Haas has made the cut in each of his four trips to Sea Island. He nearly won the inaugural event, finishing behind Heath Slocum by one in 2010. Since then, the North Carolinian finished T22 in 2014, T33 in 2015 and T13 last year.
In a bunched leaderboard at the 2016 RMS Classic, Haas finished only five shots off the pace. He actually outplayed defending champion, Mackenzie Hughes, in each of the round, but Hughes’ 61 was too much for Haas and the field to overcome.
Haas, 35, is not an accurate driver (117th last season), but he’s great from the fairway and hits it pure enough to escape well from trouble that can lurk off the tee at Sea Island (27th in GIR, 32nd in rough proximity).
