Patrick Reed is one of four Americans at the DP World Tour Championship, joining Peter Uihlein (who nearly made this top 10 list), David Lipsky and Julian Suri.

He’s the highest ranked in the world of the four and was the only with dual status on the PGA Tour until Uihlein earned his card this fall.

“It’s just one of those things that I need to come out and feel like I need to test my game in all different places and hopefully it will pay off,” Reed was quoted by ESPN’s Bob Harig in 2015 of his global game.

Reed, 27, has had mixed results on the PGA Tour in stroke play events this fall. He tied for 11th at the CJ Cup, tied for 50th at the WGC-HSBC Champions and missed the cut at last week’s OHL Classic. Perhaps getting a head start to travel across the world from Mexico to Dubai will serve him well.

Reed was also his usual self in international team competition, going 3-1-1 in the USA’s Presidents Cup victory.

This will be Reed’s second time to the Earth Course. His debut went well as he tied for 10th in 2015. He was in the mix to win on Sunday before a final round 73.

If Reed can reign in his aggressiveness and keep big numbers off of his card, he could stack birdies this week. He was 42nd in birdie average on the PGA Tour last season.
