PGA TOUR: RSM Classic top five sleeper picks
There’s a confluence of factors that are leading me to believe the Postman is in for a good finish this week.
For starters, the Seaside and Plantation courses are familiar to this Sea Island resident. Poston’s a very good wedge player when his game is on (55th last season in approaches from 50-125 yards). He’s not the longest player (77th in driving distance), but he should be able to get the yardages he wants hitting into the greens.
The 24-year-old Western Carolina graduate just barely missed his PGA Tour card for next year finishing 132nd in the FedEx Cup, but he’s making a charge to regain status and rack up more starts. Poston posted his highest career finish, a T4, at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open two weeks ago and followed with a T14 last week in Mexico. All eight rounds in that span are under par.
Before that, Poston also tied for 54th at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
Poston was also 29th in birdie average last year, so if he’s wedging it close he has the firepower to get to the finish line.
