DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – NOVEMBER 16: Li Haotong of China plays his second shot on the 11th hole during the first round of the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates on November 16, 2017 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. (Photo by Francois Nel/Getty Images) /

Haotong Li will basically be playing a home game this week. The 22-year-old Hunan, China native has had a stellar sophomore year, but Li was left wanting more after completing the 2017 European Tour season.

"“I’m a little disappointed I haven’t won this year, especially as I’ve had a couple of very good chances,” Li told Richard Castka in the South China Morning Post. “It would have been good to have had just one victory.”"

Li finished 17th in the Race to Dubai thanks in part to a fourth-place finish at the Nedbank Golf Challenge and a T13 at the DP World Tour Championship.

Other high finishes include a solo third place at the Open Championship where he was tops among those not in the Jordan Spieth/Matt Kuchar division. He also tied for seventh at the HNA Open de France, a Rolex Series event, and nearly won with a Sunday 66 at the Rocco Forte Open where he was solo third.

As a rookie, Li won the 2016 Volvo China Open.

This week marks Li’s second start in Hong Kong.

"“I played in the Hong Kong Open in 2015 but I missed the cut, so I plan to play a lot better this time,” Li told the SCMP. “The course is fairly short but tricky so it’s quite challenging.”"
