European Tour: UBS Hong Kong Open top 10 power rankings
Matthew Fitzpatrick is making his fifth start in as many weeks in Hong Kong, but the way he’s playing there’s no sense in stopping.
Finishing 12th in a 60-man field at the DP World Tour Championship last week isn’t setting the world on fire. Nonetheless, it serves as Fitzpatrick’s eighth straight top 15.
It all started with a win at the Omega European Masters and has snowballed into success that includes a T11 in his home British Masters, T15 at the Rolex Series’ Italian Open and a T9 at the WGC-HSBC Champions.
Fitzpatrick made the most of his only start at the UBS Hong Kong Open, tying for third place. He admitted that week he wasn’t hitting the ball the way he would have liked and had to scramble to stay in the mix.
His formula to success is usually the opposite; Fitzpatrick is 30th in driving accuracy and 36th in greens in regulation. His short game isn’t poor, either, though. He’s 49th in putts per GIR and 66th in scrambling.
Everything’s been working for Fitzpatrick lately, and few would be surprised if the 23-year-old Englishman picks up his fifth European Tour win in Hong Kong.
