SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – NOVEMBER 26: Jonas Blixt of Sweden plays his tee shot on the 18th hole during day four of the 2017 Australian Golf Open at The Australian Golf Club on November 26, 2017 in Sydney, Australia. (Photo by Brett Hemmings/Getty Images) /

It’s been an odd year for 33-year-old Swede Jonas Blixt. He teamed with Cameron Smith to win the inaugural two-man version of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the PGA Tour back in April. The win locked up his Tour card for two years as would a standard individual win, but it hasn’t exactly freed him up to play up to his potential.

Since New Orleans, the three-time winner missed seven of 16 cuts and lacked a top-15 finish. Blixt found something in the dirt last week in collecting a T2 finish at the Australian Open to qualify him for the Open Championship. Not bad for his first trip to the Land of Oz.

“It was nice. I haven’t really played that well lately and I’m getting back at it,” Blixt told Tom Boswell of the Gold Coast Bulletin. “Getting in contention and have a chance to win a tournament was fun.”

Blixt fired three rounds in the 60s last week and missed out on a playoff by one when his 12-foot birdie try missed.

Normally, the putter is Blixt’s trustiest club; he was sixth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting last season.
