Harold Varner III’s resume at the Australian PGA is unmatched in recent years. After losing in a playoff at Royal Pines in 2015, Varner III sealed the deal in 2016 to finish ahead of Andrew Dodt and Adam Scott.

Varner III had the low round of the tournament in 2016 (a six-under 66 on Saturday) and matched the low score last year with bookending 65s.

“After last year, it feels good to come back and finish it off,” Varner was quoted by the Associated Press’ John Pye. “This is my first win since the mini tours, so this is my first win, I guess, as part of an organization such as the PGA Tour, the European Tour. It’s just a step in the right direction and I’m just super excited.”

The 27-year-old American finished 29th in driving distance and 32nd in greens in regulation last season on the PGA Tour.

In the year 2017, Varner III racked up seven top-25s on the PGA Tour. He tied for 41st in his last start at the UBS Hong Kong Open.
