Brooks Koepka Hero World Challenge
SHANGHAI, CHINA – OCTOBER 29: Brooks Koepka of the United States plays his shot from the fourth tee during the final round of the WGC – HSBC Champions at Sheshan International Golf Club on October 29, 2017 in Shanghai, China. (Photo by Scott Halleran/Getty Images) /

Brooks Koepka is in the middle of quite a hot streak, and it’s entirely likely that he simply doesn’t want 2017 to end. And who could blame him? Currently seventh in the Official World Golf Ranking, Koepka broke through at the U.S. Open in June, and has consistently proven himself to be a contender ever since.

With eight top-25 finishes in his last nine starts, there’s hardly a blemish on Koepka’s record worldwide. In fact, in his last start at the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan, Koepka dominated the field, winning by a record-setting nine strokes. He even had Matsuyama, who tied for fifth, wondering how to close the “huge gap” between the two superstars. If that’s not high praise, nothing is.

Koepka will be looking to close 2017 in style, and based on what we’ve been seeing recently, there’s little doubt he’ll be able to do just that. He will have to overcome a bit of a mixed bag of results at Albany, though. In his Hero debut two years ago, Koepka came in at -18, which was good only for solo seventh place. Last year, he posted -5, and dropped to a T-13 finish.

I’m not thrilled with those type of results for an 18-man field, but Koepka’s talent is undeniable. It’s an extremely top-heavy field, but Koepka has proven he can win in those circumstances. He’ll get another chance this weekend.
