Rickie Fowler has firmly planted himself in the elite ranks of the PGA TOUR, and you get the feeling that, sometime very soon, he’s just going to open the floodgates of success. I’m not about to say that a win this week at the Hero World Challenge is going to change everything overnight, but hey, it can’t hurt.

The Hero may not be an official event on the TOUR schedule, but it’s definitely become a happy place for Fowler. He’s finished inside the top-ten in each of the last three years. Beyond that, he’s finished in third place two years running at Albany, coming in at -21 and -13, respectively, in 2015 and 2016.

Fowler heads to Albany with a bit of an advantage: even in an 18-player field, Fowler is likely only the fifth or even sixth player from a “drawing” perspective. His galleries are always huge, but all eyes are on the tournament’s host this week. It’s a rare situation usually reserved for a major championship, but that should free Fowler up to play this unofficial event much more freely. And, as we’ve seen in the past, when Fowler gets comfortable, he can be incredibly dangerous.
