The 27-year-old South African Erik Van Rooyen could notch a career-altering win this week. He’s already done a lot to show his potential in 2017, collecting a win on the Sunshine Tour and then the Challenge Tour.

Now equipped with a European Tour card and a spot in the world top 200, Van Rooyen will aim to get his 2018 European Tour season off on the right foot with a good finish in his native Johannesburg.

Van Rooyen enters off of a missed cut two weeks ago at the Hong Kong Open, but is only a month and a half removed from his Challenge Tour win and had a T3 on the circuit last month.

The former University of Minnesota Golden Gopher made the cut in two Joburg Open appearances, including a T22 in 2016.

Van Rooyen is a ball-striking machine, but has been known to leak oil on the greens. His distance will help if the course plays wet this week.
