Haydn Porteous picked up his maiden European Tour win at the 2016 Joburg Open. It set him on a good track as the 23-year-old Johannesburg native won this year at the D+D Real Czech Masters in September.

Since the victory he hasn’t been able to get into contention but owns three top-25s and was inside the top 35 at all three Race to Dubai Final Series events.

Porteous was T40 last week at the Mauritius Open where a closing 75 sullied an otherwise positive week with three rounds of par or better, two being in the 60s.

The youngster can mash the ball as evidenced by his fifth spot on the 2017 driving distance list. His 50th spot in the putts per GIR category shows he can also putt for some dough.

This is sixth event in seven weeks and 33rd of the season, but he’ll want to ratchet it up one last time for the home crowds.

If he isn’t prompt in showing up early in the week, I wouldn’t blame him. He had a pretty decent poolside view last week at his resort in Mauritius.
