Sentry Tournament of Champions: Top five sleeper picks
Another player taking on Kapalua for the first time will be Kevin Chappell. The 31-year-old has been a mainstay on Tour for several years, and his long awaited first win came at last year’s Valero Texas Open.
PGA Tour fans will be expecting more W’s for Chappell, and this week could be the place to start.
In his most recent starts in the fall, Chappell went T20 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, missed the cut at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and Was T14 out of 18 at the Hero World Challenge.
Last season, Chappell earned four top-10s. Aside from putting (167th in strokes gained: putting in 2017), Chappell was inside the top 75 in the major strokes gained categories including 29th in strokes gained tee-to-green. Players who have good tee-to-green numbers at Kapalua are often in the mix to win come Sunday, and Chappell is second in the category in the early stages of 2017-18.
