Sony Open in Hawaii: Power ranking the top ten at Waialae
Si-Woo Kim has just one Sony Open start to go off of, but it went pretty well. Then just 20-years-old, the South Korean finished solo fourth at Waialae in 2016. That year, Kim was in the 60s all four rounds.
He broke onto the scene by winning at the 2017 PLAYERS Championship, meaning he won’t be able to sneak up on the field anymore. Kim is one of this week’s headliners, and for good reason.
He picked up some world ranking points with a 10th-place finish last week at the Sentry where he was just five strokes behind fifth place.
Kim did not have a particularly impressive Asian Swing in the fall (no top-40 finishes), but bounced back with a solo third at the OHL Classic in Mexico.
The youngster’s stats were hard to discern last year as his lows were low and his highs were high, making for middling statistics. When he’s on, though, Kim is an aggressive and confident player with a short game to bail him out from trouble.
Back problems are always a concern in the back of fantasy players’ minds with Kim, which forced his pre-tournament Sony Open withdrawal last year, but he appears in good stead this week.
