BMW South African Open Power Rankings: Top five at Glendower
One of the oldest tournaments in golf gets things going on the European Tour in 2018. The 107th BMW South African Open Championship is co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour and annually attracts some of the top players from South Africa and beyond.
Host site Glendower Golf Club in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, South Africa is in its fifth year in a row as host site. It opened in 1937 and underwent a major renovation in the 1980s. It currently measures out to 7,594 yards and a par 72 for this week’s event, though elevation (approximately 5,000 feet) makes the distance far more manageable.
Glendower features tree-lined, kikuyu fairways with 64 bunkers – 27 on the front and 37 on the back. The putting surfaces feature a traditional Bentgrass.
This week’s simultaneous EurAsia Cup has poached some top-tier players who may normally head to South Africa, but there is still some talent to break down.
Here are five players who could be in line to take the trophy this week.
