No longer is Kevin Chappell one of the best players without a PGA Tour win. The former UCLA Bruin got it done at the 2017 Valero Texas Open as part of a career year featuring five top-10s.

He reached a career best 23rd in the Official World Golf Ranking and may still have his best golf to come at age 31.

Chappell skipped last year’s CareerBuilder Challenge and is 5-for-5 in cuts made here. His best finish was a T8 in 2013 and most recent was a T66 in 2016. Chappell proved he could go low in 2016 with two rounds of six-under 66.

Coming into the week, Chappell was solo 21st at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

He was 48th in par breakers last season and ninth in total eagles. Putting is Chappell’s weakness, but at a tournament like this, it’s about who can wedge it close. Chappell was 51st in strokes gained approaching-the-green and 31st in proximity from 100-125 yards.
