There are a lot of big-time names in this week’s field. Guys like Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Jon Rahm dot the landscape. So, of course, it stands to reason that you’ll be looking to a 35-year-old journeyman like Brian Stuard as a big part of your fantasy lineup this week at the CareerBuilder Challenge. Right?

Stuard might not be the first name on the tip of your tongue when you’re looking for big-time contenders in the California desert this weekend, but he’s got the game to hold up. So far in the 2017-18 PGA TOUR season, the Michigan native has gone a perfect 6-for-6 in cuts made. Last week, he scored his third top ten finish with a tie for fourth place at the Sony Open in Hawaii. The last time he had three top-tens in a year? 2014, which was also the last time Stuard scored a top ten at the then-Humana Challenge.

His career trajectory may not inspire a ton of confidence to the casual observer, but his recent form should be more than enough. According to the PGA TOUR’s official stats, Stuard just finished his week at Waialae first in the field in fairways hit, and second in strokes gained putting. If he brings that type of game back to the mainland, he should be a strong contender at La Quinta.
