European Tour: Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship power rankings
Dustin Johnson showed us at the Sentry Tournament of Champions two weeks ago that when he’s got his ‘A’ game, he’s near impossible to beat.
After winning four times in 2017, DJ wasted no time earning a berth in the 2019 ToC with an eight-stroke romp at Kapalua.
Johnson made himself at home quickly in his Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship debut last year, finishing T2 and only one behind Tommy Fleetwood. DJ’s Saturday 64 matched the low round of the event.
If you’ve watched Johnson at all lately, you know he’s a supreme talent, but let’s break down a few stats.
He finished first on tour in total strokes gained (1.905), strokes gained tee-to-green (1.809) and strokes gained off-the-tee (1.002). He isn’t the most accurate, but as long as he keeps his misses near the fairway the rough at Abu Dhabi GC is not overpowering.
With a week off since his win at the Sentry, the big time zone change from Hawaii to the UAE should be negated by now.
With sunny skies in the forest, there’s no reason DJ can’t lap another talented field this week.
