Farmers Insurance Open Power Rankings: Top ten at Torrey Pines
After it was doom and gloom (at least in his eyes) after a disappointing T50 finish in the fall at the WGC-HSBC Champions, Hideki Matsuyama appears to have righted the ship.
Japan’s top player is the owner of three top-five finishes in his last three starts, coming at the Dunlop Phoenix (fifth), Hero World Challenge (T5) and the Sentry Tournament of Champions (T4). Granted, the Dunlop was a Japanese Tour event and the others were limited field events, but a start’s a start.
Slump or not, Hideki has continued to do Hideki things as he’s currently eighth on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation (76.39 percent). If he can zero in this week, he won’t need to be a superstar on the greens to win.
This will be Matsuyama’s fifth start in as many years at the Farmers Insurance Open. His best result was on his first time around with a T16 in 2014. He missed the cut in 2015 and ’16 and tied for 33rd last year.
