Can one of the PGA Tour’s most popular players also be one of its most underrated? With so many talented young players filling the ranks and scooping up majors, world No. 7 Rickie Fowler has gotten a bit lost in the shuffle.

He’s won seven times worldwide since 2015 with one of them coming against an elite field at The PLAYERS Championship. If the end of Fowler’s 2017 is any indication, he should be in for a fun 2018.

While everyone was agape at Tiger’s impressive comeback at the Hero World Challenge last month, Fowler was busy shredding the field by four-plus strokes. A few weeks prior he nearly won at the OHL Classic (second place) and was T4 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions to begin 2018. His 2017 featured 12 top-10 finishes and top-25s (two top-fives) at all four majors.

At Torrey Pines, Fowler owns two top-10s and two more top-20s in eight starts, though his last two trips have ended on Friday.

This week will be as close to a home game as Fowler gets. The Murietta, California, native grew up about an hour away from Torrey Pines.

Given Fowler’s accuracy and short game, there’s no reason he can’t get back on the horse for at least a top-25 or more if his game stays sharp.
