Waste Management Phoenix Open: Power Rankings
The Waste Management Phoenix Open is one of the best stops on the entire PGA TOUR calendar. Who will top this week’s power rankings in the desert?
You can have your Super Bowl. Us golf fans know the real excitement this week is at the 16th hole at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
The PGA Tour’s only completely enclosed hole will have 20,000 fans in full throat once again, making this event a unique watch. In the winter months, the desert views leave those longing for summer.
This year’s field produces some big names, one being Hideki Matsuyama who’s seeking his third straight Waste Management Phoenix Open win in a row.
A course like the 7,266 par-71 TPC Scottsdale is a bomber’s paradise; the last seven winners have finished in the top 10 in greens in regulation.
Not only do you need to give yourself a lot of birdie looks, but you need to make a fair amount of them. The winning score has been in the teens under par or higher with Matsuyama winning at 17-under in 2017.
Since the Phoenix Open moved to TPC Scottsdale in 1987, there have been eight winning scores of 20-under or better with Phil Mickelson (2013) and Mark Calcavecchia (2001) tying the record at 28-under. Never has a winning score been in the single digits under par.
Unsurprisingly, the weather forecast projects as warm and sunny so this might not be the week to roll with your favorite plodder in DFS.
Without further ado, let’s get to the top ten power rankings as the PGA Tour’s west coast swing rolls along.
