A combined 23-under in eight rounds is Jordan Spieth at TPC Scottsdale. The Texan was in red figures for all eight and was sub-70 in five.

Those results produced a T7 finish in 2015 and T9 in 2017. With two weeks off since his T18 at the Sony Open, Spieth should be fresh to post a solid week in the desert.

Having length (Spieth was 75th in distance last season) and accuracy (101st) off the tee is helpful around TPC Scottsdale, but Spieth’s iron play is good enough to produce enough birdie chances either way. His putter hasn’t cooperated quite like he’d like it to as of late, though I don’t think anyone is too panicked.

Spieth hasn’t won since the Open Championship, but hasn’t finished outside the top 30 in 10 starts since. In that span Spieth was a runner up at two FedEx Cup Playoffs events and was top 10 in the other two.
