Two missed cuts in a row in the UAE didn’t make for a dream start for Lee Westwood, but I envision him getting back on the horse this week. He missed the weekend by one shot each of the past two weeks, all after nearly two months away from competition.

The Englishman showed good form at Saujana in 2017 by tying for 26th. A Friday 66 raced him up the leaderboard but he couldn’t continue to make up ground on the weekend.

Three of his four rounds in 2017 were par or better.

Westwood closed out last season with two top-20s in the Race to Dubai Final Series and had five top-10s on the season.

At 44, Westwood’s window of excellence has began to shrink, but there’s certainly more left in the tank for – perhaps – one more Ryder Cup push.

He was still pure with his irons last year on the way to finishing 37th on the European Tour in GIR. Westwood closed at 35th in scoring average as well.
