David Lipsky nearly earned career win No. 2 in Kuala Lumpur last year, and he’ll have another crack this week. The 29-year-old American played well for all 72 holes at the 2017 Maybank Championship with four rounds in the 60s, only for Fabrizio Zanotti to zip by him with a Sunday 63 to Lipsky’s 67.

Saujana’s Bermuda greens can get bumpy from time to time, but Lipsky maneuvered them deftly to lead the field at 27.3 putts per round.

Lipsky comes in off of a nice T6 finish at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic last week, where the five ahead of him were all top-100 players in the world. There, Lipsky was under par all four rounds, and he fired a 66 on Friday.

This will be Lipsky’s third straight week of competition, but he’s well used to playing three or four weeks in a row. He averaged over 30 starts the last three years, in true road warrior fashion.

If the energy’s still up to keep pumping 300-plus yard drives as he has been, there’s no reason he can’t shoot up to the top of the leaderboard.
