Zach Johnson is getting some serious momentum behind him in the early part of the 2017-18 TOUR season. In five starts so far this year, he has yet to card a finish lower than T23 (at the OHL Classic) and overall he’s just finding a groove. Considering the prices in this week’s field, then, it’s easy to be confident rolling with ZJ.

You want more consistency? Look no further than Johnson’s recent resume at TPC Scottsdale. In his last five starts, he’s five-for-five with just one finish outside the top 15, when he tied for 24th in 2010. Since Tom Weiskopf’s 2014 redesign, he’s finished 10th in 2015, 14th in 2016, and 12th last year. This is not a guy who struggles with the desert gem.

He’s not the flashiest pick in this week’s star-studded field, but if he flies under the radar of your opponents, that’s a big win for you. Statistically, Johnson ranks eighth on TOUR in proximity on approach, 11th in birdie average and third in adjusted scoring. When you’ve got as deadly of an iron game as Zach Johnson has right now, you don’t need to be the biggest hitter or the deadliest putter. Basically, he’s making golf as easy as he can, and the results are showing it.

There are more expensive players, but if you need to guarantee yourself a solid four rounds, you won’t do much better than this.
