Jordan Spieth missed his first cut since May at last week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open.

What better place to get back on track than the site of his most commanding win in 2017?

Spieth is back to defend his four-stroke victory that felt like it could have been by more if he was so inclined.

He was among the leaders in greens in regulation, hitting 17 on Sunday, to reach 19-under. In relation to par, that tied for the second best mark in the last nine years.

Before his greens in regulation and lag putting clinic Sunday, Spieth got around Pebble Beach in just 23 putts. The traditionally inconsistent poa annua greens didn’t faze the Texan one bit.

Spieth has proven he’s not a one trick pony on the Monterey Peninsula. In five total starts he’s finished no worse than a tie for 22nd and was three shots off the pace en route to a T4 in 2014.

If you’re looking for a reason to stay away from Spieth this week, he did admit to be working through some adjustments made in the offseason.

"“I haven’t been playing very well,” Spieth was quoted by USA Today. “I didn’t drive the ball very well and I didn’t putt well. I’ve just been working on some things that take time, unfortunately, in tournament rounds.”"

The last time Spieth missed a cut was at the AT&T Byron Nelson. How did he respond? With a T2 at the Dean & Deluca Invitational and an Open Championship win less than two months later.
