Making his AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am debut this year is Rory McIlroy. It’s not his Pebble Beach debut, however. The latter came at the 2010 US Open where McIlroy missed the cut by three shots.

His aggressive play ended up hurting more than helping that week. That sort of style was much more favorable for the soft 2011 US Open setup that he utterly dominated.

"“I wouldn’t say I’m a naturally patient person but there are just some weeks where you have to bide your time and this is definitely one of those weeks,” McIlroy was quoted by Sunday Express in 2010."

Here’s to hoping years of wisdom and a tamer version of Pebble Beach and a round each at Monterey Peninsula and Spyglass Hill will do McIlroy good this time of round.

As of late, McIlroy’s given himself a pair of great chances to win. The Northern Irishman tied for third at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and took solo second in a dual with Haotong Li at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

If he keeps it up, Pebble Beach should be a lot kinder to McIlroy this time around.
