Is Jason Day back for good? His win at the Farmers Insurance Open leads me to think so.

It’s not like the former PGA Championship winner fell off the face of the earth, but few could have expected a winless 2017 calendar year.

The death of his mother and the occasional injury teamed with inconsistent play made for a tumultuous year. Day quickly reasserted himself with a win at the Farmers Insurance Open a couple weeks ago.

He’s now finished in the top 25 in 10 straight tournaments and emphasized he’s still hungry for more success.

"“Last year was a good kick in the butt, not really being talked about … and being talked about for the wrong reasons,” Day was quoted by the Los Angeles Times. “Take my mum out of the equation. I see the guys winning – Jordan (Spieth) and Dustin (Johnson) are playing some tremendous golf. Jon Rahm’s playing some tremendous golf, and I feel like I should be there, as well, winning.”"

Based on past performance, Day should feel like he’s due to win at Pebble Beach.

He’s played here ever year since 2013 and will make his ninth start in the Monterey Peninsula. Day has never missed a cut and owns six top-15 finishes. Take away a Saturday 75 and Day would have been right in the mix to challenge Jordan Spieth for the title instead of settling for a T5 finish.
