There’s no doubt Jon Rahm is playing fantastic golf right now, but is he running on fumes? This week will be the 23-year-old Spaniard’s fourth start in a row and fifth in six weeks.

It’s easy to be critical of Rahm for only converting four recent title opportunities into just one win. Some of his back-nine performances have been shaky. We can’t lose sight, though, that just having the opportunity to win week in and week out speaks volumes to Rahm’s talent. Doubly so when he’s jumping from tournament to tournament without time to recharge the batteries.

Rahm learned well on the fly in his AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am debut in 2017, tying for fifth. Granted, he was never in title contention in the wake of Jordan Spieth’s romp, but he recovered nicely from an opening 73 at Spyglass Hill to close with three sub-70 rounds.

He won’t be able to bash his way around this event’s trio of courses as he has previously by way of being second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off-the-tee. By the same token, it’s hard to imagine his proximity numbers won’t improve soon (152nd fairway proximity, 131st rough).

A win this week won’t be enough for Rahm to pass Dustin Johnson to become world No. 1, but it would be a nice showing after finishing second behind DJ in two events in the past year.
