Tony Romo is living the good life after his career as the Dallas Cowboys’ starting QB came to an end. Not only is he a solid addition to CBS’s top-tier NFL announce team with Jim Nantz, but his golf game is as good as it’s ever been. This isn’t really a “power ranking” column, but it would be tough to ignore Romo if it were.

Of course, if Romo’s on-course prospects are on the rise, he may have his new broadcast colleague to thank for that. Nantz recently predicted (announced?) that Romo would receive an exemption into a PGA TOUR event in “the next two months”. While he didn’t expand on those details – will he be playing in two months, or just announced? – it certainly makes for some interesting debates.

Officially, Romo is good enough to be allowed into a TOUR event on a sponsor exemption. He carries a +0.3 handicap, but he hasn’t posted an official score for a while. The TOUR requires players to be 0.0 or better, and even though the backlash would be immense, he’s obviously not just a weekend duffer with a famous name.

Either way that goes, Romo is still competing as an amateur this week at Pebble Beach, and he’ll have a chance to show that his skills can compare in some small way with those on the game’s biggest stage.
