There’s no way we could ever have a true celebrity golf listing without listing the patron saint of weekend duffers, William James Murray.

Bill Murray is an idol in the golf world thanks in large part to his starring role in the 1980 cult classic Caddyshack, but his impact on the game goes so much deeper than just one movie. Heck, Bill and his five brothers (Andy, Brian, Ed, Joel and John) started a golf clothing line, William Murray Golf. It’s not based on high-tech materials (although they have those, too), but on fun, casual designs. Run by The Chive, there’s plenty of reference to the 19th hole, and even the most out-there designs, much like Murray’s comedy, just plain work.

This week’s apparel highlight will be the debut of WMG’s “Bill-Bottoms”, which are just what they sound like – Nicklaus-era bell-bottom trousers with Murray’s irreverent styling. Will his style match up with his play on the course this week?

Honestly, who cares? Bill Murray is an amazing ambassador for this great game, and he’s going to be almost as big an attraction as the PGA TOUR pros competing on the Monterey Peninsula this weekend. And who knows, maybe he’s got about 350 yards left, he’s going to hit about a 5-iron. It’s a real Cinderella story.
