One of the more creative formats on the European Tour is this week at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth

We’re in year two of one of the more bold tournament ideas the European Tour’s concocted. Brett Rumford won last year’s maiden event in his home country by a 2&1 result over Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai.

How we arrived to that point is a winding road. A full field of golfers arrives to Lake Karrinyup Country Club to vie for a spot inside the top 65 and ties to make the 36-hole cut. Sounds normal, right?

Things start to differentiate with a 54-hole cut that whittles the field to 24 players. The top eight earn byes into the round of 16 which features six-hole match play matches.

For this, a strong match play record is useful, but a stroke play acumen is still required to have a chance to make some noise on Sunday. Plus, this event, formerly titled the ISPS Handa Perth International, was a traditional stroke play event from 2012-16.

The field did take a small hit recently, as the No. 15 player in the world, Tyrrell Hatton, was a late scratch.

Let’s take a look at some of the talent lined up to compete Down Under.
