After missing sometime late in the 2017 season with a shoulder injury, the smily Englishman appears back in good form. He stepped in for Hatton to lend this event another recognizable name in the field.
Johnston, 28, earned his highest finish since 2018 with a T9 in Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago and followed with a T45 in Dubai and a T27 last week in Malaysia.
Here in Perth, Johnson tied for 50th in his debut in 2012 and was T15 his last time at Lake Karrinyup in 2016.
Beef’s been sharp in almost all facets so far in 2018. He’s 22nd in scrambling and 29th in putts per GIR, not far off his pace in recent years. He’s an excellent fifth in GIR, however, after finishing outside the top 150 in 2017.
Johnston said in a Daily Mail story he’s laid back on his beer consumption to get himself in better golf shape, but perhaps he’ll be indulging in celebratory a pint or two on Sunday.
