DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – JANUARY 26: Tommy Fleetwood of England hits his second shot on the 9th hole during round two of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club on January 26, 2018 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. (Photo by David Cannon/Getty Images) /

Englishman Tommy Fleetwood joins Alex Noren among European players making their debuts at Riviera this week. Fleetwood, 27, has played well all over the world. Why can’t he do it here?

Few are in command of their golf ball like Fleetwood. He’s already won against a strong field at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and followed it up with a T6 in Dubai.

In that span he was a cumulative 38-under-par. He hit all 18 greens in round one at Abu Dhabi.

Fleetwood also tied for third against a strong, albeit small field at the Hero World Challenge. He tied for 61st in his last trip to the States for the PGA Championship.

In 2017, Fleetwood finished sixth on the European Tour in driving accuracy and first in greens in regulation. If the grainy, unfamiliar poa annua greens aren’t too big of a deterrent, Fleetwood has the shotmaking ability to contend this week and earn his first win in the US.
