Genesis Open Power Rankings: Top ten players to ride with at Riviera
Life after 40 has treated Pat Perez very well indeed. The 41-year-old won last year’s CIMB Classic and is on a seven made cuts streak.
He posted a T4 finish at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and was inside the top 35 against solid fields in Dubai and at Pebble Beach in recent weeks.
Perez has played the Genesis Open each year since 2002 and has only missed the weekend three times. A solo eighth-place finish in 2007 was his high water mark. Rounds of 67 and 66 had Perez just one off the lead last year but a tough weekend in the rain dropped Perez to a tie for 28th.
If forced to lean on his short game, it could be a short week for Perez. That shouldn’t be the case, though, as he’s been deadly accurate: Perez is third in driving accuracy, sixth in greens in regulation and is converting when he gets to the green at 14th strokes gained putting.
A West Coast guy like Perez shouldn’t be too fazed by Riviera’s poa annua greens, either.
Perez’ CIMB win and his 2016 OHL Classic win are nice, but he’d love to prove himself against a strong field this week.
