Not only does young Thomas Detry come in on fine form, but he’s one of few who have firsthand competitive experience at Al Mouj. He didn’t contend for the title like Sordet but he’s shown to be miles ahead of the player who tied for 41st in Muscat in 2016’s Challenge Tour event.

Detry, 25, appears on the cusp of becoming a European Tour winner. The Belgian won on the Challenge Tour in 2016, tied for second at the BMW International Open as a Euro Tour rookie and now has three consecutive top-25s in 2018.

He crushed it in the United Arab Emirates last month, going T9 in Abu Dhabi and T22 in Dubai. He took his talents to Malaysia and tied for 23rd in Malaysia.

The University of Illinois could join friend and former college teammate Thomas Pieters as a pair of Belgian bombers starring in golf for years to come.

“I’m only starting my second season on tour, so I’m not a rookie. Everything kind of went really fast,” Detry was quoted by Sport 360. “It’s not even been two years since I turned pro, June 2016, so I feel like I have a lot of learning to do, but I’m getting better and things are going well.”
