Honda Classic Power Rankings: Top ten golfers at PGA National
Justin Thomas’ scorching hot pace at the end of 2017 was impossible for just about anyone to sustain. Still, there are lot of players who would love to enjoy what’s been JT’s cooling off period.
The 24-year-old has four four top-25 finishes since the New Year. His best result was a T9 at last week’s Genesis Open where he was in fringe contention.
He’s shot par or better for nine consecutive rounds coming into the week.
Thomas’ brief history at the Honda Classic is inconsistent. His T3 finish in 2016 is the meat to a sandwich of missed cuts in 2015 and 2017.
Thomas got caught in the Bear Trap while trying to win for the first time in the US back in ‘16. Now a major champion and world No. 1 aspirant, Thomas has the chops to seal the deal this time around.
We all know Thomas can go low – he led the PGA Tour last season in par breakers – but he’s also competitor who can appreciate a stern test of golf that the Honda Classic offers.
“It’s a lot different than a lot of tournaments we play,” Thomas said in 2016. “It’s such a grind and it’s just such a tough course, even when there’s no wind and it’s soft and the greens are starting to get a little bit firmer and it’s windy. Just it really is a good test of golf.”
