Honda Classic Power Rankings: Top ten golfers at PGA National
Tommy Fleetwood somewhat came back down to earth at last week’s Genesis Open. A T37 finish ended a streak of 10 consecutive top-25s. That shouldn’t do too much damage to his confidence.
The 27-year-old Englishman looks to be a lock for the European Ryder Cup team, but PGA Tour fans shouldn’t wait until the fall to get to know Fleetwood.
This will be his first trip to the Honda Classic, but he’s played well in Florida before, tying for 10th in his debut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2017.
Fleetwood took two weeks off before the Genesis Open, so he should be fresh to attack a course that sets up well for him.
The 2017 European Tour Order of Merit leader made his money with his ball striking. He was tops in greens in regulation (76.8) by 1.5 percentage points. Peppering greens isn’t too tough when you’re sixth in driving accuracy and 38th in distance as Fleetwood was.
Fleetwood may have a similar adjustment period to the thick bermuda rough like his countryman Hatton did in 2017, but I have a suspicion he won’t be in the nasty stuff too often.
