MUSCAT, OMAN – FEBRUARY 16: Thomas Detry of Belgium tees off on the par for 18th hole during the second round of the NBO Oman Open at Al Mouj Golf on February 16, 2018 in Muscat, Oman. (Photo by Andrew Redington/Getty Images) /

Thomas Detry has been a mainstay at the proverbial pay window over the past month. After a missed cut to open the season in South Africa, the 25-year-old Belgian has reeled off four straight finishes inside the top 31. His high water mark this season was a T9 against a stout field in Abu Dhabi.

Detry, a former college teammate of Thomas Pieters at the University of Illinois, also teased us with his potential late last year, tying for second at the 2017 BMW International Open.

He is long enough to compete in today’s game and his iron play is strong. Detry finished 23rd on the European Tour in greens in regulation in 2017.

Speaking of top-31 finishes from earlier, Detry did just that in Qatar last year. He finished tied for 28th despite a 74 in round two.

Detry should have plenty of birdie looks this week. If the putter cooperates (98th in putts per GIR in 2017) then there’s no reason his top-10s and top-30s won’t turn into wins before long.
