Qatar Masters Power Rankings: Top ten at Doha Golf Club
Chris Wood found something in the dirt last week, and he’s now arrived at an event where he can keep the momentum going.
Wood won here in 2013 and has other high finishes in Qatar.
The end of 2017 and beginning of 2018 were unkind to the 30-year-old Englishman. Wood entered last week’s Oman Open coming off results of 68th-57th-MC-MC-MC.
That’s not exactly the formula to try to get back on this year’s European Ryder Cup team.
Alas, he found his game in a hurry last week to push Joost Luiten down the stretch en route to a solo second-place finish.
"“You play poorly for six or eight months without ever thinking you’d put yourself in contention in a tournament and then when you do you’re gutted when you don’t win,” Wood told the European Tour. “I’m pretty down really but in the grand scheme of things it’s night and day to how I’ve been. After a couple of days I’m sure I’ll reflect and see it’s a big step in the right direction this week.”"
Wood is 5-for-7 in cuts made in Qatar with a T14 in 2010, T20 in ’12 and a T11 in ’17 to go with his win.
