Fantasy Golf: Honda Classic DraftKings value picks
This week’s DraftKings strategy is all about finding diamonds in the proverbial rough. Sure, we can say that most weeks, but at the Honda Classic, there are plenty of low-price, high-potential players in the field. And no player fits that bill right now more than Ryan Palmer.
Palmer was enjoying a strong upward trend through the entire month of January. He opened the year with a rocky 58th-place finish at Waialae, but he did shoot a second-round 64 that week. The following week at the CareerBuilder Challenge, he recorded his first top-20 finish of the year, and just his second solo top-20 since last year’s Valero Texas Open. Then, he tamed Torrey Pines, finishing runner-up despite a weekend scorecard of 73-72 on the challenging South Course.
Given those three results, I’m more than willing to forgive Palmer his missed cut at Phoenix, his fourth consecutive start. Given a couple weeks of rest and practice, I expect him to bounce back just fine at PGA National.
Palmer hasn’t missed the cut at the Honda Classic since 2010, and in 2014, he finished tied for second. I’m a little bit concerned with how he closed last year’s event (73-75, T37). However, if I’m going to look at that, I also must give him credit for opening in 66-65, going 9-under at the 36-hole cut and sharing the lead with Wesley Bryan.
Ryan Palmer will provide you a steady hand this week at PGA National, with the experience to navigate the course, and likely avoid any huge numbers.
