Count me among the fans of Bud Cauley this week at the Honda Classic. The University of Alabama alum is enjoying a solid start to his sixth PGA TOUR season. In eight starts so far, he’s made seven cuts, along with four top-25 finishes. With another strong showing this week, it’s entirely likely that he’ll find his way back into the top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time since October.

Can he do it at one of the tougher tests on the PGA TOUR? There are plenty of reasons to be confident in Cauley.

Bud has made three career starts at the Honda Classic, and he’s been improving with experience. In 2017, he made his first cut at PGA National, and that translated into a tie for 27th. He showed some flashes of brilliance along the way, going 66-67 on Friday and Saturday, before falling off the pace with a closing 73.

Statistically, Cauley is a steady, but not overpowering, player. He’s slightly below average when it comes to fairways hit (60.95%, ranked 86th on TOUR), but he gets better around the greens. He’s currently 70th in adjusted scoring, and 34th in strokes gained putting. If he can hit a few more greens in regulation this week, he’ll be a strong contender for another top-25 finish.
