WGC-Mexico Championship Power Rankings: Top ten at Chapultepec
I’ll be honest, I forgot about Justin Thomas’ ace at last year’s WGC-Mexico. When I searched for YouTube clips for him, it wasn’t surprising at all that he had one.
The unexpected is expected these days for Thomas whose Honda Classic win was his fourth since August.
Whether it’s a 59 at the 2017 Sony Open, a 63 at the 2017 US Open or a near hole-out eagle on the last hole of regulation at the Honda Classic, nothing seems out of JT’s reach.
He was among the favorites to win in Mexico after 54 holes. A Sunday 72, the highest score of any finishers inside the top 11, kept him from pushing Dustin Johnson for the title.
Wouldn’t that be a show to have those two paired together on Sunday?
This course asks you to take less than driver from time to time, but seeing Thomas and other bigger hitters fully unfurl at altitude will be fun.
You have to count a T22 at the limited field Sentry Tournament of Champions, but with it, Thomas enters finishing in the top-25 in nine straight events.
Thomas has proven he can play well the week after a win. He went back-to-back last year in Hawaii and finished T23 at the WGC-HSBC Champions after winning the CIMB Classic in 2016.
