PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – FEBRUARY 25: Alex Noren of Sweden plays his tee shot on the third hole during the final round of the Honda Classic at PGA National Resort and Spa on February 25, 2018 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. (Photo by Sam Greenwood/Getty Images) /

Alex Noren just keeps knocking on the door. Someday soon, he’s going to kick it in again.

The 35-year-old Swede has been in the heart of contention twice already in 2018. Noren’s debut on the PGA Tour has been spectacular as he finished one out of a playoff for a solo third at last week’s Honda Classic and lost in a playoff to Jason Day at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Both high finishes came at demanding golf courses, which has me thinking of Noren as a US Open sleeper down the road. For now, he’s looking to prove himself against a world-class field.

The nine-time European Tour winner is seeking a fourth straight top-25 in a full field event as he also tied for 21st at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and 16th at the Genesis Open.

An opening round 76 spoiled Noren’s last visit to Chapultepec as he finished T55, but he played his final three holes in a respectable one-under.

Noren is ninth in scoring average with 12 of his last 13 rounds at par or better.
