WGC-Mexico Championship Power Rankings: Top ten at Chapultepec
Few thrive on poa annua greens like Phil Mickelson. The California kid finished second in last year’s WGC-Mexico field in putts per GIR and is fifth on Tour this season following a run of poa annua-filled tournaments.
You can hear it in Phil’s voice that he’s eager to win. At 47, Mickelson’s been reinvigorated to the point that he could blow by a field this week who may just be here for the paycheck.
Mickelson’s an intelligent guy and an avid traveler who seems to relish growing the game. He’ll want to put on a show, which he’s done as of late.
Lefty’s run off a T5 at the Phoenix Open, a T2 at Pebble Beach and a T6 at the Genesis in successive weeks. Phil took a week off after five straight weeks on the road.
Fickle Phil isn’t the easiest player to predict. That said, he’s given us plenty of signs to think he can keep up his fine form.
